Die Cutting
At Ferguson Printing, Inc. we can produce a variety of shapes from circles to ellipses, our die making department looks forward to your next unique design. From custom door hangers to detailed multifaceted star shapes, we are up to the challenge. Our stamping facility can handle up to 23"x35" finished size.
You can order your die cut job as normal, just let us know the shape you need and our design department will work closely with you to determine if the shape will hold up for the intended purpose. If we have die cut your job before, there will be no cost related to producing your die.
Depending on the shape, our dies start at $45.00, this includes any vector outlines needed to produce your shape. For example, if you give us a picture, most of the time we can convert it to a vector graphic usable in producing your die - at no additional conversion charge to you. Once you have the die produced, there is no additional die charge down the road if you decide you need more of the same product. Just the die cutting fee - that's it!
Simple Die Cutting Guidelines
If you are using a printed piece, please include it with your order. If a computer file, please provide a printout of the desired finished piece along with the file. Having us print and die cut your job, we'll design the shape closely within your guidelines.
If you have the ability to produce a vector format, please provide the exact shape with a printed piece along with the computer file. This is usually the best for our die makers as they will produce a die exactly like your file.
Sometimes multiple cuts are made on the same sheet. Please provide a placement of these cuts within you file to ensure exact die cutting by our finishing department.
For best die cutting quality
Artwork needs to fit the finished product before sent to our die making department.
Provide a 1/4" bleed outside of the entire cut line. For example, if your finished product is 4" x 4" square, we need 4.5" x 4.5" of room on the sheet plus our 1/2" gripper on one edge to allow for finish trimming.
Provide a 1/16" safe area around the cut line that does not include any printing. Even though our equipment is very accurate, this allows for changes in the paper depending on humidity, variations in page size, and the printing equipment used to print your product.
Normally we need a 1/2" gripper edge. This can be on any side up to 23". This gripper edge is used for our equipment to grab the product and hold it through the production process.
